OBDeleven / VCDS coding on a Volkswagen

This page lists the most common OBDeleven / VCDS coding tweaks for MK2 (2016+) Volkswagen vehicles — activate features that weren't enabled from the factory. Most of these tweaks also suit a wide variety of other Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi models.

Do This First — Make a Backup

Before changing anything, make a full backup in OBDeleven / VCDS. A backup reads all adaptation channels and coding and stores them in a backup file (found in the History screen). You perform these changes at your own risk — if you aren't sure, don't do it!

Note

Not all coding listed below will work — it depends on the equipment level and specification of your vehicle. For example, Easy Entry needs memory seats, and Adaptive Lane Tracking needs the front-facing camera.

Tip

Clear any active fault codes with OBDeleven before starting, and clear them again when you're done — some modules throw a temporary fault while being recoded. Do your coding with the ignition on and the engine off, ideally on a battery maintainer for longer sessions.

The Tweaks

Click a tweak to expand its coding steps. Use the search box above to filter by keyword (e.g. mirror, lights, easy entry).

Enabled Mirror / Puddle Lights (When Mirrors Are Closed)

Allows the puddle light to operate, even when the mirrors are closed

  • Select Modules 42 and 52
  • Go to Long Coding - Byte 01
  • Set Bit 05 -> Deactivated
Enable Traffic Information (TMC) on Headunit

This enables the ‘Traffic’ button to work on the headunit, and will use radio frequency data to display nearby traffic information. Once activated, in may take over an hour for the initial messages to appear.

  • Select Control Unit 5F (Information Control Unit)
  • Adaptations
  • Change Fee Based Traffic Information (TMC) value to ‘1024’
  • Next, in the normal radio settings, enable ‘Traffic Programme (TP)’ and RDS
  • If you get an error, turn the headunit OFF and try again.
Disable ‘Ignition On’ Alarm

After refuelling, the amount in litres will be displayed in the cluster.

  • Select Long Coding
  • Set Store Recirculation Air Setting for Terminal 15 Off: Service-life dependent store -> Save
Starting Vibration Reduction

In wheel slip scenarios, where wheel hop is typically induced, this tweak will stop the intervention of the braking system, allowing you to continue spinning the wheels. Assist with launching the vehicle, and stops the car from ‘bogging down’.

  • Select Control Unit 03 – Brake
  • Adaptation
  • Starting Vibration Reduction
  • Set to Starting Vibration Reduction and Torque Limitation to ‘Deactivated’

XDS Differential Lock Adjustment

XDS is an electronic differential lock, and lets you grip the road when cornering fast. It improves responses to ensure an even safer drive. In moments of fast cornering XDS lightly brakes the inside wheel to prevent wheel spinning. The result is better traction and a reduction of any tendency to under steer. This tweak will vary the aggressiveness of XDS.

How to Program / Register a New Battery (OBDeleven Coding - Free Method)

Register a new battery yourself with OBDeleven's manual coding / adaptation. This is the free method (works on the PRO plan, no Credits needed) unlike the paid 'Battery Registration' One-Click App. It tells the car's energy-management system a new battery is fitted so charging and Start/Stop behave correctly.

Before you start, read the battery's top label and note: capacity in Ah, the 3-letter manufacturer code, and the serial number.

Newer cars (UDS / CAN-bus):

Select Gateway (19)

Adaptation

Battery adaptation

Enter battery capacity (Ah), manufacturer code, serial number, and battery technology (Standard / EFB / AGM). If the serial is unknown, just change the last digit.

Save / slide right to confirm.

Older cars (KWP2000):

Select the 'Battery Regulation' control unit

Long Adaptation

Channel 4

In the Value field enter: 3-digit capacity + space + 3-letter manufacturer code + space + 10-digit serial number

If the battery TYPE changed (e.g. Standard to AGM), also open Battery Regulation > Long Coding, set the correct type, then confirm.

Tip: do this with ignition ON / engine OFF. If you don't know the manufacturer code, enter UNK. Run a quick fault scan afterwards to clear any transient codes.
